About TJ
TJ Schmidt joined MHR Law in 2024 and is currently completing his Juris Doctor at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law, with graduation expected in June 2026. Upon being called to the bar, TJ looks forward to building a broad-based practice with a focus on civil litigation.
Raised on a fifth-generation mixed cow-calf and grain farm in Kneehill County, TJ now lives on an acreage near Didsbury with his wife and two young daughters. He holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Calgary and brings a diverse background to the firm, with previous careers in corporate security, health and life safety, as well as hands-on experience in farming, meat processing, and construction.
Before law school, TJ led complex internal investigations involving criminal indictments, civil litigation, and workplace incidents. He worked closely with legal counsel, government agencies, and private contractors to develop security and safety programs for corporate facilities. His work included ensuring compliance with commercial building and fire codes, and overseeing adherence to occupational health and safety standards in construction environments.
TJ is deeply committed to community involvement. He is an active member of the Didsbury Lions Club and has served on the board of the Didsbury Historical Society. At law school, he volunteers as a caseworker with Student Legal Assistance and serves as Treasurer of the Runnymede Society’s Calgary chapter, which promotes dialogue on the rule of law, constitutionalism, and individual liberty.
TJ’s unique combination of rural roots, academic achievement, and professional experience gives him a well-rounded perspective and the tools to serve clients across Central Alberta with skill and dedication.
